Vera (Xiaowen) Lin is a Senior Machine Learning Research Engineer at Apple with a passion for data. With nearly three years of relevant experience in the field, Vera has worked on a variety of projects and gained expertise in ML, research science, search, and neural networks. Currently, Vera is a part of the Apple Media Products (AMP) Search Science Team, where she is working on App Store search ranker. Prior to joining Apple, Vera worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Google, where she researched and designed a system to analyze quantized and floating-point error propagation for on-device neural network models. She also designed tools to pinpoint operator or driver issues that cause significant accuracy drop and proposed solutions for training noise-resilient models for on-device deployments. Before her work at Google, Vera was a Research Assistant at Stanford University, where she worked with the Stanford Network Analysis Project (SNAP) group, led by Prof. Jure Leskovec. There, she designed algorithms for system logs clustering and periodic logs extraction with document embeddings and worked on interpretable Few-Shot Learning for functional genomics. Vera holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, which she completed in 2020. She also holds a degree in Software Engineering from the University of Waterloo, which she completed in 2018. Vera's technical expertise includes ML, research science, search, and neural networks. She is a highly skilled and motivated individual who is passionate about using data to drive innovation and solve complex problems.
